WHO TEACHES BOOTY & THE BEATS?

Meet Claudia, a welcoming and generous teacher.

From small intimate sessions to large scale festivals around Australia. She’s been spreading her infectious enthusiasm for dance through teaching and performance for the last 20 years.

Having her first stage experience at age 5 bellydancing alongside her mother. In her teens regularly performing with local West African and Congolese bands.

Influenced by the cultures that surrounded her childhood her movement vocabulary is a combination of fluid flow and strong grounded force. Taking inspiration from a range of styles such as Dancehall, House, Hip Hop to traditional African, Bellydance and Latin styles.

A natural affinity with rhythm and grooves mixed with an abundant joy for sharing dance and that is where Claudia’s true colours shine.

WHAT STYLE OF DANCE IS THIS?

A movement experience.

Soul full, sassy, primal and energetic. Booty and the beats classes aren’t about learning one specific style of dance. The class is led by each week’s playlist, curated to make you want to wind your waist like Rihanna and shake your hips like Beyoncé. Taking inspiration from music from all over the world. Think lots of beats, sometimes with a folkloric sound, sometimes with a big dance break.

The classes are not about getting the steps ‘right’, they are geared to journeying the body back to how we are natural movement. The sometimes long forgotten connection to free flowing feminine expression. We are dancing to find that happy place in the groove of a great tune!

Don’t love dance classes but love to dance. You have come to the right place!

OPEN LEVEL, HOW HARD IS A CLASS?

These are dance classes for everyone, and all types of bodies. Experienced dancers and people who have never been to studio class before come along, we are all in it together!

In the studio classes we learn a routine, but who really cares if you get all the steps ‘right’. That’s just a little exercise to stimulate the brain and give us that sense of achievement. You will be met with joy and laughter. Claudia regularly encourages students to go rogue and when the music calls just let loose, if they feel like free styling because you love the song, just do it!

If you are a little shy, it’s recommended to come for at least 4 classes before you decide if it’s to much of a challenge. Give your mind a chance to catch up to your body!

If you are even shyer and feeling like testing the waters before you join in a class. You can head over to the online class and try it out from the comfort of your own home!
